Demonstration of the effectiveness of acquiring surrounding information in a running vehicle

Displays images in an omnidirectional view
( Playback time: 1 minute 10 seconds)
Until now, we have improved the operability of remote control by installing omnidirectional view
modules in construction machinery and robots for extreme work. This time, at the National
University of Singapore (
http://www.nus.edu.sg/
), we installed the omnidirectional view module on an actual vehicle and conducted a driving
test. Unlike vehicles equipped with it so far, the running speed is fast, so we were able to
conduct a demonstration experiment on drawing performance and operability.
This module is effective for acquiring peripheral information in a moving vehicle. The
omnidirectional view module is implemented in software and designed to be less dependent on
hardware.
This technology was developed based on the research results of the Asama-Yamashita Laboratory at
the University of Tokyo (
http://www.robot.tu-tokyo.ac.jp/asamalab/
).
