Exhibited at IFAC World Congress 2023

Pacifico Convention Center, Yokohama

The IFAC World Congress is one of the most significant conferences in the field of control engineering, held every three years. IFAC 2023 marked a historic occasion as it was the first time the congress had been hosted in Japan in 42 years, since the 1981 event in Kyoto.

Hajime Asama served as the IFAC President from 2020 to 2023, with his term concluding during the Closing Ceremony. He delivered the opening speech in the presence of the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

Throughout the conference's entire duration, RITECS maintained an exhibition booth at Pacifico Yokohama Exhibition Hall A.

The exhibition booth showcases the control of a robot arm using deep reinforcement learning. The objective is to provide an interactive experience for booth visitors.

One of Ritecs' ongoing projects involves developing an algorithm for controlling a robot arm situated at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This robot arm is designed to retrieve debris from the bottom of a pit, with some assistance or input from a human operator.

The robot arm featured in the exhibition serves as a prototype for the aforementioned project. Visitors have the opportunity to assume the role of the human operator for the robot arm, attempting to grasp objects in its vicinity. Subsequently, discussions on the machine learning aspect are held with them.

The booth attracted numerous interested students, colleagues, and conference attendees who eagerly tried out the robot arm prototype."
